From other previous experienced riders , with the plug cap leaking will it cause major problems or is it just a nusance.  I am planning a long ride this weekend and I don't want to get stranded because of the leak. What do you guy's think

For me is has been a nusance. I have fixed it once and its leaking again. ride on and carry some extra oil.

I think ther's a year model cut off & after that it isnt an issue. Once it's repaired with a new plug, it's not an issue. All ya need to do is live with it till it's cam chain time & you will be in there. maybe it IS cam chain time & you can get it all done in the next few days. ?? Mine in an 05, no leak there, but it has done some Ooozin at the clutch actuator going thru the case. Stopped when I got away from 10w40.

think it may in part be a mileage thing - mine - a 96 - was fine @ a bit below 10,000 miles, then it started soon after. not got round to fixing it (yet) as will be a winter project for me & as other said it is a nuisance more than anything.

Mileage thing?  Mine's a 97, just rolled 2500 on it.  Leak started around 1500-1800...

I got the bike with just over 600 miles, and the PO had the 600 mile dealer service accomplished.  I'll bet the dealer is partly to blame...

Mine is a 2001 , with 18,000 miles . When does the cam chain need replacing. Thanks for all the info guy's

I'm doing mine today, everything except the tensioner adjuster...it wont be here until tuesday.....itching to take the bugger for a ride !

The plug I got from the dealer looks just like the old one (even though I ordered the upgraded one), going shopping for the best sealer I can find at autozone, and cleaning the area with mineral spirits first, then shooting it with brake cleaner to get it good and dry for a better bond with the sealer.

The old plug was so deteriorated, it popped out with just a little lift of the finger.

'96...17,000 miles

I calculated errrr took a scientific wild A** guess, at the lifespan of a cam chain. Others have done the same with differing results. I measured my old chain & compared the miles on it & figured a chain, at that wear rate, should live between 20 & 21 thousand miles.Riding style impacts chain life & I am sure there are those who would point to oil type. No way am I going in there. If my bike had 18,ooo on it I would just have to look in there to see where the tensioner is. Book says at 18 mm it is time for service, but I saw someone had 22mm out & the thing wasn't cocked & about to come out. Was that Verslagen?

I got some "ThreeBond"  liquid gasket 1104 from the local shop, not Suzuki, just a shop, Used that for the whole job. The book said not to seal the plug, just the head cover, if I remember, but I sealed everything, cuz I would rather wreck the plug & need a new one than have a leak. It was 6 bucks for 3.5 oz. It's grey & kinda runny. A small screwdriver for application worked fine, but have a rag to control where it goes. I used brake cleaner & I also used some slightly used 400 grit to break the shiny surfaces, only running the grit along the seal direction, never across. Also. if the cam is removed & the head cleaned up, I recommend refilling the "pot" that holds oil under the cam lobes. No reason to let it be dry. Also, recommend soaking the cam chain in oil a while, so it isn't ever running dry.

I really don't see why any automotive high temp silicone wouldn't be just fine for this job.

mine was 20+ mm out at 14500 miles. replaced chain guides and tensioner. some have only replaced the chain with good results.

1996 Mirage paint, seat lift, 2 #4 washers, 155 main, 52.5 pilot. Removed pillon, belt guard, rear blinker mod, moved battery box. K&N cone, Chain conversion 17/43 (in process). Cam tensioner mod.

Mine was out 22mm and c0cked.
I think it was AZ... and he revised the measurement to 20. something and not c0cked.
Check the other cam chain posts (tech section for list)
My mod is almost ready to post.
