I have a 06, and the only difference I see when shifting to 5th, is it seems like it is a "2 stage" shift.  What I mean is, it feels like I am shifting from 4th it feels like it clicks into a position between 5th, then pops into 5th (confusing, isn't it).  I have come to use it to indicate I am going to 5th.  This sounds funny, but when you are driving with a large group and constantly going between 2nd and 4th in and out of traffic, and sometimes riding 3rd for a mile or more, it is easy to forget sometimes (when riding with 30-70 HDs, you can't hear the little Thumper at all).

I thought I was having clutch problems. Good to know this is a common thing.

Mine kinda feels like it goes into a "5th" gear but it does not. I just go back down to 4th and back up.
