Tire sizes...
03/09/07 at 08:04:18
I just bought my first bike 1996 Savage 650 LS..Love it..I need new rubber and cannot find the stock rear 140/80-15 anywhere in Canada..Found it on a few places on U.S websites but still seems to be rare..
Is installing a 140/90-15 considered acceptable..
Also some of the few tires I find state that they are tubeless..Can we use a tube in a tubeless tire..All savages are tubed right???
I am new to all this sorry if I seem a little green..Any info would be appreciated..

I have a 140/90-15 dunlop 404 on mine, it just fits. It will up your gear ratio a small amount and make your speedo close to dead on accurate. Yes, you can put a tube in a tubeless tire and
always
use a new tube in a new tire.

you can up to 150/90/15 but if you have saddlebags supports that fasten under the fender it will rub on the front bolts,

Seriously though, even if you just install some 11" shocks, it'll be good. Otherwise, set the stock shocks to the highest/stiffest presets and replace the bolts holding the saddlebag supports with mushroom head allen bolts and it shouldn't rub.

130/90/15 seems to be the ideal size for the rim, and just a tad taller than stock.
