Windshield mounting bracket measurements?
03/03/07 at 17:38:24
I recently bought a used Boulevard windshield supposedly for an S40 but I'm pretty sure now that it's actually a 990A0-70001 for an S50 or S83, and it didn't come with mounting hardware. The windshield is 16" wide and 13.5 - 17" from headlight cutout to top of shield (depending on position of sliding insert). The bracket mounts are 10.5" apart:
Could those of you with after-market fork-mounted windshields tell me what brand you have, the spacing between your windshield bracket mounts and whether the bracket on the windshield looks like this one or not?
I was looking at these mounting brackets:
but the fork tubes on the S40 are only 7.5" center to center and I'm thinking a custom 1.5" spacer on each side might be a bit much.
I'm going to see if I can find an S50 or S83 with an OEM shield on it to see how it mounts and the spacing, etc.
Any input is appreciated!
Thanks!!
Daniel

I run a National Cycle Dakota shield on mine. I don't know the exact widths, but here is a link to the page for the Dakota shield and it shows the fork widths that it will fit. Hope this helps in some way until I can get outside and take a measurement or two for ya!

thats not the boulevard sport shield the dealer sells...for the s 40
the stock screen doesnt have the reinforcement metal strips just 4 holes and it is smaller..it is a national cycle product but (acorrding to N.C.)suzuki sources the mounts some place else..also nc is embossed down on the lower left inside...i still have an 05 brochure and yours looks like the one for the c 50 19w x 20 h,or the c 90 they offer two one ajustable 19 > 21h x 22w,no measurment given for the non adjustable...hope this helps..

Thanks for the feedback!
Yes, this shield looks like the one on the C50/C90 but it is quite a bit smaller at 16" wide versus the one on my C50T which is 21" wide and 20" from the headlight cutout to top of shield. Judging by the windshield measurements I found at
www.suzuki.com
for the S50 and the S83, it has to be that one.
Now to find some brackets to try and mount it on the S40...

Radioman, How do you like your Dakota windshield? I need a windshield for my 06. The Dakota sure is priced right. Thanks, Larry

Well, I did some more surfing last night and the NC Ranger windshield looks suspiciously like this Boulevard shield and the measurements are almost identical.
AND they have a bracket kit #KIT-CJO to mount it to the S40...

I ditto Rob's sentiments. I like mine a lot. Near perfect deflection of wind for my height and build.
