Extended Warranty

Hello Everyone!  What do you suggest as far as adding on the extended warranty when purchasing a new S40?  Is it worth considering?  Thanks.

I don't think it is.  Its a lot of money for a pretty dependable and inexpensive bike.  Save the cash for upgrades!

Warranty doesn't cover tires, brakes & gas. They won't rejet it or toss a new exhaust on it for ya. Save the $$ & get a repair manual & some tools. Start tinkering with it when you are ready.I don't know if rejetting & changing the exhaust affects the warranty. I wasn't ready to mess with it til mine was over so it didn't matter.
Generally, those extended warranties are a bad deal. On DVD's & cars, they make the seller money, or they wouldn't offer them. It's just another way to play on the insecurities of the consumer. Buy it, ride it. When it messes up, the folks here will help ya fix it. I will do what I can, but I am still in the novice stage. It won't take ya long to be able to tell who is "In the know" & who is still learning how it works.
This is a fun forum & the bike is a blast. If you get a new one, be careful of the tires. My rear tire was slick for it's whole life. I guess that was good in a way. It kept me from swooping thru turns at speeds I wasn't ready for.

If I had found this forum & had seen the support available I would have had the confidence that I could keep the bike on the road & would have surely saved a bundle O $$$ & bought a used one. One that seemed well maintained, not a basket case or one that looked ragged out , just a used one. But, that's just me, not trying to tell ya what to do. The joy of owning a new bike is a whole nother thing. Can't be put into words.

That's my belief.  The few times that I have ever gotten an extended warranty (TV set, appliance, etc) the item never broke or wore out until long after the extra warranty.

It's like voluntarily paying more for something.  Duh Tongue

Sometimes they're okay.  I paid $300 for a 3 year warranty on my V* 1100.  Used it for $800 to fix broken starter gears (clutch plate froze, effectively trying to start it in first).  On the savage, though?  No, not with this board and the facts that: 1) teh savage is as simple as a stone axe, and 2) the only real problem is with the cam chain, and that will likely not wear out before the warranty ends...
