Well sort of but first the soapbox (ladies you may want to cover your children's ears):

SuperTrapp has absolutley the worst GD documentation I have ever seen! Who wrote this crap, someone on a crack high? The documentation refers to a retaining pin when none is provided! Also, no mention of how the disks are installed (had to go to YouTube for that) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anYOk6vEjmo&mode=related&search=

and WTF is that brown goo in the hard plastic wrapper that was provided?
And the stainless steel pipe will turn a golden brown???

OK, The holes near the rear tire did not align so there's only one bolt for now and I'm not the kind to go cuttin stuff. The Trapp is clamped to the header pipe so I guess I need a retaining pin??

Once I got everything nice and tight I brought the wife out to start the bike without any disks. OH MY FREAKIN GOD WHAT A BEAUTIFUL SOUND!! Shocked

I thought I was hearing a Neil Peart drum solo! It was a low rumble that you could actually feel in your chest and was very loud! 8)

I wish I could just leave like that but of couse I'm sure that's bad for the engine. I tried 5 disks and no backfire. I tried 8 disks and lots of backfire.

I'm gonna try 4 next. 5 disks sounded awesome and the bike performed great!

Question: anyone try wth less disks?

We're very happy with the purchase so far!

Whoa. Sounds like we're having a bad pipe day. Worst moaning that I ever heard over a Trapp, and there are quite a few in here. You just gotta remember that SuperTrapp makes pipes for dozens and dozens of different bikes in many countries. Sometimes documentation gets a little generic.

Retaining pin? Hmmm. Not sure unless that relates to the rear muffler mount. Simply though, just install the parts the way the old muffler came off.

I have mentioned using anti-seize on those stainless bolts a couple times. Use it generously, too....That is the "brown-goo" that you must use if you ever want to get those bolts back out after that pipe has run a while. If not, the bolts will break off and then you'll really be pissed. Spread the goo on the threads real well.

Now, if you haven't already done so, change the main jet and the spacer before you discolor your pretty new chrome. The popping you hear is due to the leaner condition with the new freer flowing pipe.

If you like 5 disks, that's okay, but with the right jetting and 8 disks you'll notice even more low end grunt. My spouse has 14.

The "Brown Goo" you so affectionately refered to is the anti-sieze ya need to put on the bolts that hold the baffles in. It's not necessary to go wild with it, just a bit on the end & it will spread itself as the bolt runs in.
Keeps 'em from becoming "One" with the Trapp so ya can change baffles out.
The part in the documentation referring to the pin is for a different model Trapp.

The part about cleaning & polishing before ya run it is prolly to keep oils from manufacturing from discoloring. I washed mine & gave it a quick going over with Semi-Chrome polish.

I understand not wanting to hack the pipe off, even more since I did it & had a bad experience, but I can't feel good with one bolt doing the holding so I went for it. Would do it again but would make the batery safe. I like the looks with the pipe short.

The Trapp is a LOT lighter & doesn't look like a chrome cannon. Stock pipe was so ugly.

Good documents don't a mechanic make...

I made that up, but basically it means that being able to read doesn't always get the wrench turned right.

Most of those exhausts actually get installed by dealerships because not all bikers have a great support group like this.

Most riders don't even attempt to do what we do. They order it, drop off the bike, pick it up, and go out and pose

As for the carb...you spent a couple hundred on the pipe, but if you wait and the pipes turn color, you'll really wish that you spent another $5 and 60 minutes.

My last warning.

I am curious of the ramifications of having no disks in the pipes at all. It is a wonderful sound!

I didn't have much trouble installing the SuperTrapp. Grin

You need to disconnect the main pipe at the header. I don't think the instructions said this, but it became obvious when making the installation.
With most exhaust systems you need to loosen all the fasteners to get it positioned correctly, then tighten at the header, and then tighten down along the system.

Don't loose your temper! Relax and go cool.

About the discs:
You should NOT go beyond 4 without rejetting the carb.
Even at 6 you will get yellowing of the main pipe. Yellowing means you are running too hot, a too lean condition. This will ultimately hurt your engine. When you decide to get the SuperTrapp, you must commit to rejetting your carb.

You can polish out the yellow in the pipe, but don't let it go too far because it will be a lot more work to polish out.
The SuperTrapp itself will change color more quickley than the main pipe. This is less important because you can always replace the SuperTrapp at $300. Grin

This bike is an excellent performer after making the exhaust and carb mods defined on this website.

Hey, Hunnus, I messed up & didn't write the name of the shop down where you got that Trapp. I would sure appreciate it if you would give me that again. If you have the number that would be extra cool as it would save me the $1.25 it costs to ask the good folks at 411.

I intend to go on with the jetting & will be needing another 6 pack of Miller, err, baffles.I guess I can ask them about the jets, too, cuz the local guy wants $5.00 a pop.

I would sure encourage you to go back & used the brown goo. Since you managed to get the Trapp on I have total confidence in you doing the carb.

However, I'm going to have them rejet.

BTW, I did go back and add the brown goo.

Wife says the bike runs fantastic but it's already browning near the coupling into the header pipe.
