1) I'm sure just about any pipe will sound better than the stock pipe but will it defintely be louder?

It's definately louder. It will make some noise, but it's not obnoxious.

2) You don't have to rejet the Carb because of the of the disc count?

No. Changing the number of disks will make it louder or quieter and give you more or less backpressure. The less backpressure you have, the leaner your carburetion will be. You should plan on rejetting with any number of disks. The bikes are too lean stock and a Supertrapp will make it leaner. You don't want to run too lean - it's not good for your engine.

3) You gain better performance? Speed and gas mileage?

You will gain alot of performance and your gas mileage will remain good.

4) You actually have to cut the pipe?

Yes you should. The two mounting bolt holes don't line up unless you do.

i was able to install my supertrapp without cutting the the pipe.  I have a 98'.  It was difficult to get it in but i used alot of "elbow grease" and jammed it in there enough to barley get the bolts in place.  did the soapy water trick with good results.  If you can get it in their try it before you start cutting pipes

Trapp ordered today for $270.00. Ordered a header gasket so I can drop the pipe & clean up the exhaust port a bit. I guess I better get a main jet too, have a 150 now,, Stock pilot. stock air filter. Open to suggestions! Keep in mnind I cant take that under 40 mpg. I get absolutely green with envy reading about the 50+ MPG & excellent acceleration. Those of you so equiped please show me your mods. Especially IF you ride that bike like ya stole it& still get good MPG & great acceleration.

Thanks to all for your responses!

I truly suck at the mechanical thing if I have to follow the directions. I'm much better having someone show me, especially with something as sensitive as a carb. Hell it took me an hour to put on my Memphis Shade and I nearly took it back to the shop because they ordered the wrong mounting kit......I had it on backwards.  Embarrassed

I think I can deal with the Trapp install but if any of you live in the Dallas area, there's a case of beer for ya if ya help me rejet the carb.  8)

Stinger, couple of questions,  how many discs, how much elevation where you ride and how many miles have you put on it?  seems mighty lean

Interesting.

We have a 2000 and 2001.  We didn't have to cut the header pipe to install the SuperTrapp on either bike.  The Trapp went from mine to the spouse's when I got the Raask.  Maybe loosening and realigning the header pipe could help.

On first trial, with 6 disks, the engine seemed too muffled.  Not enough power, not enough flow.  Increased to 8 disks.

We did rejet on both.  A couple times.

Initially, because it was too lean and popped a lot on decel and shift changes.  Really annoying.

Eventually, rejetted richer again because the SuperTrapp was getting blue at the header clamp.

Now, after all this time my spouse's bike has 14 disks and she loves it.

BTW - to ensure that you can change (add or remove) disks, I cannot stress the importance of using copper anti-sieze on those stainless bolts.  Be generous with it now, and you'll be doing yourself a favor in the future.

OK,

Went to our local bike shop and got the SuperTrapp for 250.00 tax included. I will let everyone know how the install goes.

Stupid question......how to I get to the carb? ???

Greg-650 is right.
Make sure you use anti-sieze lubricant on the screws every time you pull the discs out. I have been using Permatex 133A without problems. Use it on your spark plug too.
You will remove these discs many times while hunting down the best performance and sound. Always observe the disc soot accumulation. Clean all the discs each time and try too minimize soot by disc count. Always use the anti-seize.

Dang Hunnus, where you live?

GREG, what is the final main jet & pilot & air intake arrangement?

What kinda MPG?

Does she ride it hard? When she does ride hard does the MPG stink?

How much do the extra baffles cost, generally? I don't think it comes with 14..

I have the silver colored anti sieze. Not good enuff?

Reel thing, I have 8 discs.  I have put about 15,000 miles on the supertrapp. I dont understand why my bike runs strong, a constant pull of power thru all gears to about 80 mph. My muffler is just a tad golden at the coupler. I just pulled the spark plug and removed the baffles from the muffler and everything is a golden brown.  My header pipe after 25,000 miles is still a bright chrome all the way to the header. I am running a K@N air filter. I did take it to the dealer once to have it rejetted and after looking at my bike, they said I didnt need it. They rejet the Jardines but see no need to rejet with a supertrapp. The people at supertrapp and its brochure say the same thing.  I live in portland oregon, so Im not that much above sea level and Im not sure if altitude has anything to do with it . I rode it  across America last spring and crossed 11 states and it ran the same in each one. Strong! Maybe I just have a wierd bike, I dont know, seems to me if it was running lean, it would run hot and leak oil from someplace. It has no leaks what  so ever.
