Soo, I guess I need a Supertrapp

After reading about the virtues of a Supertrapp & seeing the performance & mileage reports I guess the "short step" mods I have done have only scratched the surface on the performance locked inside this little bike & still managed to very negatively impact the mileage.
Where's a good place to get a Supertrapp?
I want my MPG back AND I still wanna be able to play with this thing. I sure would hate to put it back stock after having felt it when it is running better. But, seriously, I can't tollerate less than 40 MPG.

That link I posted
is
the page with the Savage Supertrapp on it. I seached by bike and used a 2003 LS650P. You're probably searching for an S40. There's only one Supertrapp for our bikes and it works fine on the LS and S40.

Just go to the SuperTrapp website and look for suppliers. I got mine at a local Kawasaki dealer identified at the Supertrapp site.
To the Questioners: THE SUPERTRAPP IS ADJUSTABLE!!!
This is why you get the SuperTrapp! You can dial-in the right mixture by observing the color of the discs and changing disc count. You will get impressive performance.
For those who are looking for sound alone and don't care about performance, the Jardines and Harleys will be fine with you, but make sure you re-jet perfectly.

Mounting it is very easy. On my install, I decided I needed to remove between 1/4" and 1/2" from the end of the header pipe to achieve a good fit. That wasn't so easy. I used a Dremel tool and a cutoff wheel which was a slight miscalculation. In retrospect, if I did it over, I'd use a grinder. I'd plug up the end of the header pipe and wrap it with a wet towel to keep it cool during grinding. Finish up with a file. Remove just enough metal so the mounting bolts line up.
It's a good idea to replace the header to cylinder gasket during your muffler install.
There is no gasket used at the header pipe to muffler juncture. I cleaned the parts and put some high temp Permatex silicone on mine to seal it. Let the silicone dry for up to 24 hours before running the engine.
Everything fit really well after I took a little off the header pipe. Do a trial fit and then decide if you need to shorten the header pipe like I did.

Excellent! Thanks very much for the details. I spose having the header off will give me a shot at cleaning up the exhaust port a bit.
Again, thanks to all respondents..

SuperTrap P.No. is 728-50650. Dynobob is right, you need to cut around 19mm (3/4") off the end of the header pipe for the muffler mounting bolts to line up, at least on the later models. Just did mine this morning. Not quite so simple as the end of the header is stepped in three diameters; the tip is the smallest, then over that is a sleeve then finally the largest diameter the muffler clamps over. You need to trim back this largest section only, so cut carefully and peel it off. It is staked in two positions. Grind everything smooth with a Dremel. Now everything will fit just fine.

Tell me about it. Try cutting through those multiple layers with a dremel and tiny cutoff wheel
Also, spray some high temp barbeque paint on the end of the header pipe to prevent rust. Be sure you get the Permatex that is designed for exhaust. It will say "exhaust" or "manifold" on the package. It's rated to 700 degrees if I recall correctly.

OK, you've got us convinced. A Supertrapp for the wife 's 2006 S40 but a couple of clarifications:
1) I'm sure just about any pipe will sound better than the stock pipe but will it defintely be louder?
2) You don't have to rejet the Carb because of the of the disc count?
3) You gain better performance? Speed and gas mileage?
4) You actually have to cut the pipe?
Thanks in advance!

Depends on the number of discs you use in the SuperTrapp. 6 discs louder than stock, with a much nicer tone, but not bad at all on the highway. Safer too as it lets other drivers know you are there without being annoying. For riding about quiet residential neighborhoods you might want to to cut back to 5. The SuperTrapp tuning guide says 4 to 8 discs will work with stock jetting, although this is too lean anyway on the 2006 S40 and you will benefit with the mods well documented on this site. Better performance - count on it, you will be amazed. On my 2006 I had to cut the end of the exhaust header to let the muffler slide on far enough to line up the two mounting bolts. You don't have to cut the entire end off, just a strip you can peel off the clamped section after careful cutting through the first of three layers. I took off 3/4" and everything lined up fine.
