Well after about 18 months with my S40 I have traded it in for a brand new S50. I am doing longer rides, live in a very Windy city and fell in love with the silver one. I wanted that bit more power and weight.  Got a great deal on the Trade-In

But the Savage was a fantastic starter bike, helped me gain confidence, was light and easy to manouvre and I know I will miss it.

A big thanks to everyone on this site that anwered my questions and helped me with rejetting etc.

This is still the best bike site I have come across.

I was a bit worried about the weight but the S50 is only 40 kg heavier than S40. I notice it a bit moving it around - having to push / pull with a bit more force but once riding it is pretty similar. The ride position is so similar, and the S50 is the same height from the ground as the S40, I think that helped a lot.  

What I did notice is that I don't get blown around as much in the wind. It is so windy here in Wellington that people get blown right off their bikes, sometimes roads are closed to motorbikes. We are expecting 130k gusts later today in exposed places.

I've got both at home, Savage and Intruder 800 versions. You will miss the Savage, guaranteed. Even stone stock, it would hand my wife's Intruder its tail light.

You will need to completely remove and lubricate the shaft once a year. Both ends are splined and require grease. So do the swingarm pivots (just like a Savage). The rear drive unit requires gear oil, which must be changed every other year.

Changing Intruder/S50 air filters is a nightmare, you have to pull the seat (which mean both sidepanels as well), the tank, and hope your fingers are small enough to fit in there, because pliers won't.

Keep a close watch on your battery, that model is notorious for shaking the inner plates loose and the cable end bolts out (bad placement between the rear wheel and transmission).

The gas valves (even the current ones) tend to leak.

Minor annoyances at best.
