I'd love to have an early Savage, but I'm looking for a small pickup truck now so I can go get all this stuff.

That's a great price. I'm sure the bike is perfectly fine. Rebuild the carb (easy), change the oil, and replace the battery and you should be good to go.

WD - ATF won't hurt a wet clutch. I run it in the crankcases of my two strokes. Instead of putting ATF down the plug hole, I'd put a teasp00n of oil just to lube up the top end.

Two years sitting isn't that bad. It's mainly the fuel system that will need attention. Gasoline turns to varnish.

Edit: doh! teasp00n becomes teaspoon  Roll Eyes

I am also in NC and looking for a Savage. If you don't buy it, please tell me about it so I can come and take a look!
Thanks.

We got the Savage and we are going to re rebuilding it over the remainder of the winter.  If you would like, Steve, I'll contact you when it is done and give you first shot at buying it.  I won't be trying to make a profit off it, just break even.  It is the experience and the tinker hobby that I am after.

It is just too small for me.  I am 6'3" and 285 lbs.  I can't turn the bars on it all the way...they hit my knees.

I thought you were buying this bike for your wife so you could ride together? And why are you giants always trying to squash this poor little bike?

I was buying it for her.  She has decided since we got ti that she really doesn't like the cruiser style bike anymore....which really surprises me since before we got the nighthawk, that is all she would look at.  Since she won't ride it I thought that I would whenever we went anywhere together.  That just isn't going to happen, though.
