I bought a 1997 LS650 with a Jardine muffler. It backfires when I let off to shift and when downshifting. I was wondering if anybody knows what size jets I should use in the carb and if I should take the spacers out of the carb. Also does the oil filter have to be forced on to the inside knob or just lay against it . Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

That's generally a pilot jet/white spacer issue. Don't need to force the oil filter in place, once you screw on the cover the filter will seat properly. Hope this helps...
