Removing Battery & Sparks!

Hi everyone ... was winterizing my Bike yesterday, along with my brother and his '03 ACE ... anyhoo, we were gabbing and joking while I was removing my battery ... now, I KNOW that you're supposed to remove the -ve terminal first, but I got distracted and went at the +ve first (dohhh!) with a long Phillips screwdrive to loosen the post ... and as soon as screwdriver touched the post, the shaft touched the frame and sparks flew! I instantly removed the screwdriver, realizing my mistake.
Question, this all happened in a split second ... is there a chance that I might have caused some damage to the Bikes electricals? If so, what kinda damage might that be?

That's what the ignition key is for allowing the electric going to all system when turn to ON. What you have done is short-circuit the + and - because the negative wire that go from the - post straight to the bike's frame.

The only thing you did was to short across the battery, causing a small spark. (small = did not vaporize any part of the screwdriver ) Not even enough to affect the battery.

i erringly posted a few weeks past to slide the battery towards you and dis connect the pos side first(i am used to working live circuits) it is much safer to un do the neg first as your experience will tell..the greatesr hazard with sparkes around un sealed batteries is (EXPLOSION) igniting the gasses associated with lead acid cells..and any flying hot slag from the screw driver/frame weld point...eye protection...
