Oooooh! Ooooh! I know this one!
The answer is, "Walnuts".

Sorry, couldn't resist. Since a stock LS 650 redlines at 100mph, all you have to do is take what percentage of 100 that you want to travel at, and then multiply that times the LS 650's redline... 6500 rpm.

Soooo 70mph is 70% of 100 mph and 70% of 6500 rpm is 4450 rpm@ 70 mph.

Suzuki doesn't give a maximum cruise rpm for the LS 650, but I'm pretty sure 70mph is safe, I don't know about you, but anything above that on mine makes it get a bit buzzy and twitchy. 65-69mph seems to be the sweet spot.

I used to have an inexpensive digital tach on mine.  The vibrations killed it.  I shift by feel anyway.

Tach? Tach?  We don't need no stinkin' tach!  Grin

I don't think I've ever had a bike with a tach on it.  Can't afford those kind of bikes...

Hello, just for those who didnīt know:

Tach in German is a slang-word for Tag what means
day.

Can someone tell me where is the bus with the people in it who wants to know this?

Just kidding,

Extrapolating from my owners manual...4000 rpms at 60mph and 5000 rpms at 75 mph.  So based on that, it runs 15 mph/1000 rpms in 5th gear.  If the owners manual is accurate then you're running 4667 rpms at 70mph...Of course, that's a BIG IF...

Ok the run is in and matched the numbers fairly well -

todays test mule a 1995 Savage with near new me880's and close to 25k miles:

60mph is dead on 4000 rpm and 70mph shows ~4600 rpm, with tad over 5000rpm dead on 75mph

The larger tire will change your true speed, but won't affect your tach/speedo readings.  The speedo is hooked to the tranny.  If it were hooked to the front wheel, then rear tire/gear changes wouldn't throw it off.  Of course a GPS speedo would be accurate no matter what you did...

i have a 30 some $ digi tach the feed wraps round the plug wire(direction of wrap from coil to plug) only time i use it is to maintain idle speed and carb tuning..most important is idle speed for proper oil flow at stop lights..
too slow not e nuff flow ,too fast too much heat.. with that said someone tell me why day to day the idle speed changes..humidity,barometric pressure, needle not seating correctly, dirty goggles, old age,too many trips to the dumpster?

I bet my money on the long term effects of dumpster doings as the likely effect on the idle - could be temp and pressure changes effecting the vac slide, but I'm going with the dumpster
