Idle mixture screw moved!
09/22/06 at 12:55:25

I don't know how it happened, but my idle mixture screw unscrewed itself about 5 turns out over the last few months. The bike was running super rich and would stall at idle. Just before stalling, it would puff out thick black smoke from the exhaust. I was thinking carb overhaul but tried the idle mixture screw first and it was about 4 or 5 full turns too far out.

I set it to 2 1/2 turns out total and all is fine again.

I'm the third owner of my bike and now I know what that bell is for!  Good think I didn't take it off.

If the spring is too puny to hold it, maybe one from a ball point pen would fit in there?

I place a dab of silicon sealer on top of the screw head after its set.
Easy to mess with if needed but keeps the adjustment screw in place.
