Hey everyone,

I'm in the midst of trying to fix this plug leak. So far i am ready to remove the head cover but I cant remove the timing plug to turn the engine over. It's stuck so tight in there. Pissing me off. I have the back wheel up and im rotating the engine in top gear that way, but I have no clue where top dead center is. I have read about the piston being up and free play in the rocker arms. I can see when the piston is up with a screw driver but there is never any play in the rocker arms. Anyone have any suggestions?

Many have made the tool to remove the plus with a large diameter washer and vice grip or other locking pliers. Might even get the washer to work with a large adjustable wrench.  The special tool is listed in most major cycle parts/accessories & tools catalogs. But one version I have is soft enough to bent the tool when using it. the other is hard enough to bugger up the plug. I've tried to find the same size plug on a Honda as they use an internal hex to twist it. So far no match of size. Max

Well i got it off.  Grin. I rotated the back tire and found TDC on compression according to   http://www.dansmc.com/valveclearence.htm. No play in rocker arms but just said screw it and took off all the bolts and popped it off no problem.

Now I have a couple questions.

The plug was filled with oil to the brim and seemed to easily come out. If you look at this pic the nut by the pipe is covered in oil. https://obeacons.gotdns.com/Mac/Files/P1010014.JPG
Im assuming the plug was leaking and dripped down onto this nut and when i started riding the wind would pick up the oil and deposit it here as this is where I would always see a pool of oil. https://obeacons.gotdns.com/Mac/Files/P1010015.JPG
Does that seem right or could the leak be coming from elsewhere?

The intake valves seemed to be in a pool of oil whereas the exhaust valves were dry. Is this normal? https://obeacons.gotdns.com/Mac/Files/P1010008.JPG

So i bolted it back up now. And took it for a spin. The bike feels totally different now. It almost doest feel right. I dunno what the hell is wrong now. There seems to be a lot of noise coming from underneath the head cover. What could I have done wrong?

I gave it an oil change too and after taking for a spin, there was funny smelling clear smoke which seemed to be seeping out of between the header pipe connection. Any ideas?

Could be that you were at TDC on exhaust and not intake. Don't know from experience, just what I've read here.
