Hello all!
My name is Carl and my wife is Dee.
The 95 Savage is her bike.
I am an Intruder Alert member with my 97 1400.
We purchased her bike and she said it needed to be louder!
I have read alot of your Muffler posts here.
I started with COMPLETELY opening up the stock exhaust and after a 20 mile ride I WANTED TO GET OFF THIS THING!!! SO darn LOUD IT HURT!!!
So I was told by some on Intruder board the Sporty muffler fit... OFF WE GO TO THE HARLEY STORE... found the HOG director had stock '02 sporty muffs and sold me one for $20. The '03 he had was actually a little too big for the pipe, '02 fit almost perfect.
The '02 is a straight through design like a glass pack, NO BAFFLES OR DIVERSION PLATES!
I bought the Harley band clamp to keep the install clean atthe connection with 2 wraps of muffler repair tape it fit and snugged right up! I didn't figure out how to mount to the stock bracket so... I cut off the Harley bracket and used a 3 inch hose clamp wrapped in a chrome exhaust heat shielding to keep it as pretty as possible. Let's not talk about the fact that the header started to leak at the head, had to drive 60 miles to the dealer for a gasket that cost under $4, broke both studs and had to drill them out to a 3/8 car type stud!
NOW i have a HUGE popping that is as loud a pistol going off when I shift or decell!!
The carb is stock jetted (I took it completely apart and cleaned it out as it had sat for a while when we bought it and was cloggin up as I rode!).
What is the size of the jet?
Will a jet from my 1400 Factory Pro kit fit?
HOW do I get rid of this POP?
The exhaust seems to be running very rich as the black smoke on the rear brake linkage indicates (exhaust dumps right onto the linkage and the drum area)?
IF as some posts suggest... the pop is from a rich condition when slamming throttle plates shut then how does richening it up help? Why would I want to give it MORE fuel to POP even louder with?
Here is a link to the thread on my work for the exhaust

This is a fun little machine! Very agile, nimble, and stable! Only gets 80-90 MPH though!
85 is all I could get on the stock muffler.
Reached 90 on the stock gutted muffler!
Seems to have lost a little top end when I put the Sporty pipe on it? not sure yet just seemed to peter out about 80-85.
