Morning Runs
08/20/06 at 19:23:36

I have been trying to ride most every morning lately, weather permitting, and have been able to gather some performance data during those rides.
The data was collected by the Veypor on my bike and these numbers are generated by downloading the Veypor info into my PC and running it through the program provided by the company which analyzes that data and puts it into a usable form.  It has taken me a while to learn how to use the program, but I am finally getting it down.  However, I still do not know how to take the graphs directly from my computer and put them on a website, so for now I am doing this by hand.

The following are 4 sample runs, 2 are 0-60 mph runs and 2 are 1/4 mile runs.

1.  0-60 run:  time=       4.8710 sec
                     max hp=  44.9533 hp
                     max tq=   42.8096 ft-lbs

2.  0-60 run:  time=        5.1784 sec
                     max hp=   41.9000 hp
                     max tq=    37.3595 ft-lbs

3.  1/4 mi run:  ( 0-60 ) time=  5.1638 sec
                       max hp=          40.9133 hp
                       max tq=           34.6532 ft-lbs
                       max vel=          86.6252 mph
                       time=               14.3430 sec

4.  1/4 mi run:  ( 0-60 ) time=  5.3654 sec
                       max hp=          40.9733 hp
                       max tq=           42.1284 ft-lbs
                       max vel=          86.1219 mph
                       time=               14.4659 sec

These runs were done on different road sections and with various carb settings.   I will be gathering more data using a  common road and with fixed carb settings in order to remove those variables.

Good work.  I assume you are "launching" for the runs?

Yes, these were standing start launches.

100 mph in the 1/4 mi ?  It will need to be a lot perkier before that happens.

Also, with the added power the stock clutch is beginning to slip noticeably at the launch and when hitting 2nd gear.

I almost went over backward on one launch when I lost control of the clutch for fraction of a second ... that was a thrill....

The power of the engine continues to increase as I get closer to the best carb settings.  I am confident that 50 hp is attainable without further internal engine mod's.  With higher compression, better flowing intake/exhaust ports, and an improved ignition system, 60 hp may be within reach.  Good usuable torque would also increase as well.  At that point some hard core work on the clutch would need to be done so it would be able to hold it all together.

NOS is not needed.
There is plenty of virgin muscle available without it.

I'm trying to install the Veypor on my stock bike (so far) and I'm having an issue with the tach.  Undecided No readings at all.  I've tried both sides of the coil with the white wire.  And several config settings.

???How's yours setup?

Any help would be appreciated. Grin

Lancer, I don't know whether your trouble with getting the graphs is getting your program to save to a file that can be uploaded, or if you don't know how to upload to a web server; but I can help with either problem.

If your program doesn't provide a way for you to save the output to a graphic/photo file like a .jpg or a .gif, you can capture whatever is on your computer screen by pressing the "PrtScn" button. It is the first button of the three to the right of your function keys (F1, F2, etc...) on most keyboards.

Once you have pressed the PrtScn button, the whole image exactly as on your monitor is saved to the Windows "clipboard" and can then be "pasted" into any imaging software program by using the Ctrl+V shortcut keys.
(I like the free program Irfanview for working with images, but you can just use Windows 'paint' prog.)

Remember these handy shortcuts:
Crtl+X = Cut
Crtl+C = Copy
Crtl+V = Paste

Now, once you have what was on your screen in a program that can save it as a .jpg or .GIF you can upload it to bikepics, or your personal web space usually provided with any ISP account. Failing that, if you (or anyone else) want to send me pictures via email attachment, that is ok, as I have quite a lot of space and bandwidth on my paid server space which has no annoying popups.

If I've just explained a bunch of stuff to you that you already know, my apologies. Maybe someone else will find the info useful.

BTW, thanks for taking a lead on pressing the performance edge of the Savage. I'm not sure how far I will go with mine, but one of my attractions to the bike was it's untapped potential in both performance and individualized style. All at a fraction of the cost of what many riders spend on their cycles.

Thanks for the help.  I did not know how to do that before so this is good info for me.  I will give it a try a bit later when I have more time.

I broke down and re-read the manual, and using my limited intelegence set all the settings as pictured in the manual and it worked!  Shocked I had purchased the unit used and was lead to believe that it all worked.  I don't know how it worked with circuit:0 filter:0 multiplier:0

Or download OpenOffice for free.  Calc would be the spreadsheet app.
