Power Problem
07/24/06 at 15:58:42

I noticed that my headlight cycles between bright and not so bright at different times during my ride, seems to fluctuate with RPM's.  Is this the sign of a problem?  Or am I truly being the Newbie that I am?

1st guess, if it really is fluctuating w/ rpms, your charging system or battery is on its way out.  Easiest thing to do, is

1) make sure bettery connections are tight/good.  If problem still persists, see below.

2)  check battery water level and voltage.  If low (on water) refill w/ distilled water.  Charge.  See if the problem persists.  If it won't take a charge, get a new bettery.  See if problem persists.

3)  charging system shot.  See repair manual.

OR  it may be due to rpm vibration getting something loose.  Seems to me if that were the case, it would more likely flash on/off, though.

So is it brighter/dimmer at high/low rpm, or is it just random?
