Ignition Timing
06/08/06 at 21:21:54

I could use a little guidance in reinstalling my cam shaft. What marks do I line up on the cam gear, and to what? I think I found that the tappet clearance is .004 for both exhaust and intake. Is there any adjustment on ing. timing once assembled?

Thanks, I hope to ride it to Americade this weekend.

You could searche the forum as this topic has been covered before, but alas.
Let's start with the easy bits:

There's NO adjusment for the ignition timing..

For tapet clearance I use a 0.005"

Now the camshaft:

1) Put the piston at TDC ( Top Dead Center)
2) Drop in the camshaft with the lobes(cams) down.
There's a line scribed on the camshaft that has to be
in line with the top of the head.
3) Hook the gear in the chain and  the 3 holes aligned
with the camshaft. Put the location pin and the 2
    bolts in the camshaft.
4) Install the chain tensioner.
5) Torque all bolts and nuts

Hope this answers most of your questions.
