Updated tuning report
06/07/06 at 22:27:29

I am working through the jetting/tuning process on my bike and these are the most recent results.  I feel like I'm about 85% dialed in, with just minor fine tuning left for all three circuits...pilot, needle and main jets.  Also, as reported earlier, the addition of the UFO did make a noticeable difference in the low-midrange.

All of the horsepower & torque readings are at the rear wheel.
All of the runs are with slightly different jetting, so no two are directly compareable.  I am trying different combinations of jets/settings to see what will work the best.

0-60 acceleration run:

5.02 sec to 61.5 mph
39.5 HP @ 6386 rpm
42.2 ft/lbs TQ @ 4471 rpm

_____________________________-

1/4 mile run:

16.79 sec
39.6 HP @5651 rpm
36.9 ft/lb TQ @ 5390 rpm
no terminal speed

1/4 mile run:

15.02 sec
47.8 HP @ 6357 rpm
46.8 ft/lb TQ @ 5435 rpm
terminal speed:  88.4 mph

Dyno runs:  (run in any gear...test start @ 3000rpm to 6000rpm)

#1...
37.4 HP @ 6015 rpm
40.4 ft/lb TQ @ 4409 rpm

#2...
42.1 HP @ 6346 rpm
47.0 ft/lb TQ @ 4697 rpm

It is amazing how much of a difference a slight jetting change will make in performance.

Hey Lancer

From The road tests a standard KLX will do the 1/4 in 13.7/92.
KLX with me on her and half a tank of gas weighs 248kg (547lbs) and so is probably slower than stock.
How heavy is your Savage in the same trim ?

I do not know the exact weight but suspect 300-320 lbs with the stuff I have removed...especially the stock header/muffler.
When entering the data into the Veypor I used the stock weight of 352 lbs plus my own 205 lbs.

The computer in the Veypor uses that combined weight, distance traveled, time, speed, rpm, and G force to calculate the horsepower and torque values.  The reports I have read by professionals who have done comparison tests between the Veypor and a shop dyno setup show that the Veypor is extremely accurate.  I do not recall the specific figures but the difference between the two was within about 2-3% of each other...and that is pretty darn good in anyones book.

Some have suggested that this performance data may be more useful since it is real world on the street rear wheel horsepower & torque, instead of just setting on a machine in a shop.
