Broken shift rod

Had my first breakdown yesterday. As I was leaving the factory, I pushed the shifter down just to be sure I was in first, the pedal just flopped down. But I made it home (17-20mph) took me a long time to drive 12 miles. Would have been easier if it got stuck in 2nd, but sure glad it didn't stick in neutral. Will try to pick up a shift rod today.

I bought my 96 just last Oct (05) with 6500 miles on it, now has 9800 miles on it, mostly city miles commuting to work. I love this bike, and I sure enjoy this website, so much good info.

20mpg? what's that??? I get 10mpg in my 94 Ram 1500 4X4 and 8 to 10 in my 83 CJ5. Thumper gets 55 to 65mpg. Not hard to figure why I bought a bike, huh?! Grin
