I need help.

I bought a 86 and took it apart to paint the fenders/tank.  Bike ran fine prior to me messing with it.  The bike sat dismanteled for about 9mo. I put it back together and it wouldnt run. I've since replaced the fuel pet thingy, new plug, cleaned the carb with carb cleaner, cleaned the diaphram on top of carb, set the float, replaced the solinoid.  I can get the bike to idle by continually spraying starter fluid into the air box but the bike just doesn't seem to be getting fuel. I just cant figure it out. I also bought a cheap battery at walmart and it wont start unless I hook jumper cables to it and start it off my truck. What am I overlooking????????

Unhook the fuel line to the carb.  Turn petc0ck till it flows fuel...Try that first...   I would still bet its in the carb....  Remember with the petc0ck in the down position fuel will not flow unless the engine is running...

I'd pull the carb back off and make sure the diaphram was sliding up and down creating a vaccum to pull fuel into the carb.

Let's try this in steps, because the explanation is not realy clear.
1.Turn the petcock in PRI
2. Unscrew the drain plug
A.If there is no fuel- problem with the petcock.
B.If there is fuel- problem with the carb-do a search how to clean it.
About the battry- it will be a topic for a diffrerent discussion, but I persomaly do not believe that the reason for the problem is that the battery is "cheap". The difference in the quality feels mostly in the life of the battery.
