Well, as of this moment, here's what the Savage looks like sitting in my garage.  Still some way to go, but it's coming along nicely.  The only thing left to make it actually roadworthy is hook up the gas tank.  I also probably want to get the speedometer attached (see my post from earlier today), cover up the cables etc.  







As you no doubt noticed, the stock tail light is gone.  And obviously, I don't have the apes on yet.

This has been a fun thing to be working on.  I have to admit to learning quite a bit.  I'm not the most knowledgable or skilled person when it comes to mechanics.  And so far, the cables have been the most expensive part of the project!

Hopefully when I get it all finished, I'll rmember to take some pics in decent lighting...

Like it a lot, but without a front fender how do you plan to stabilize the front fork?

Looking good.

gotta get rid of the lobster-eye turn signals, though.

and the reflectors on the downstem

and the shocks.

and hide the electronics that are under the seat.

Cool colours and the tank looks realy cool ! (did you ever tell what bike it came from) maby some sort of skirt or cover for the stuff thats underneeth the tank would look nice  8)

I think it looks great even without the apes!  Is that a Sportster tank?  Can you show us some closeups on how you mounted the tank?

How high are the seat springs?  Couple guys on the Aero forum are using 2" springs and a gate hasp in front to keep seat heighth down.

Ok...try to answer this all at once...

At the speeds I'm typically riding, the front is plenty stable.  I'll mostly be using it for commuting to work, which is 20, 30, and 40 mph roads, no fast curves.  I've had the front fender off for a while now, and haven't noticed any major difference in handling.  I ride so conservatively that I probably never will (still haven't managed to drag a peg!)

No idea what bike the tank is from.  I'll try to get some pics of how it mounts on here in the next couple of days for ya.  

And yeah, I'm planning on covering all the stuff up that's hanging underneath the tank.  I'm thinking I'll just use some rubber from an old tire tube, stretch it around there to hide it/protect it.

I might switch out to shorter springs at some point  But at the moment, I'm just trying to get everything on it.  I still have a steel plate to mount under the seat to hide all the wiring there.  

I don't have the tank fully mounted yet, so I haven't been able to take it out yet.  Heh, never had it up that fast anyway...I'm not much of one for high speeds.  But it weighs about 60 lb less than stock, I would guess.  Plus the rejetting done and whatnot.  So I think I probably have a pretty good power to weight ratio going for me.

Still trying to figure out the speedometer issue...

I'm also planning on painting the control boxes to match the tank/fender/sidecovers.  Black, with some white pinstriping.  I've never been fond of the boring metal...  I'm also thinking of mounting dual headlights...4 1/2 inch round headlights, one above the other.  Thoughts on that?

Oh, and as for the color...I had a color picked out that I relaly rather fell in love with.  Blue with metal flake...but it was impossible to work with.  Seriously.  After fooling with it and testing it...I gave up and went with basic black.  After all, this way it'll go well with pearls, right? Wink

I have a friend visiting this week from CA, so I probably won't get to work on it as much as I'd perhaps like.  but it's been 6 months since I last saw her, so that's just the way it works!

Well, if your close to gettin' your buddy bike working, your buddy can help... assuming it's a buddy whoi can ride.

I'd stick with the stock headlight, or get soemthing similar... don't think the double would look quite right.
