If you have driven other bikes the shift pattern may be different than you are used too. 1 is down from N, then it is 4 shifts up. Older bikes had N at the bottom of the shift pattern as do most ATV's. Max

I find that interesting.  Anything below about 32-35 on mine starts bucking like hell in 5th gear.
