Oil starvation was the problem. But it was not because it was low. The O-ring for the oil port in between the head and head cover was misaligned when someone when into the head and clipped in half when the head was tightened. More than likely allowing the oil to flow out and right down the timing chain channel. As of right now I consider myself very lucky that it didn't get a complete blockage.

The design flaw there is that the eccentric o-ring seat is on the head cover not the head. If you don't stick it, it can fall when you flop the head cover on. R the o-rings still non-round like the seat or r they round now. I haven't gotten mine yet.

That may be a good one for tech notes because that one port is all that feeds the cam bearings and lobes!

The o-ring is not round because after the head cover is cast, then the oil ports are drilled on an angle. I just had to look at it a little longer to understand.

I had exactly the same concern when putting my head cover back on.  You can't see if this sealing ring stays put instead of dropping into the head internals when wrestling the cover back on.  My solution was to clean then smear a light film of Permatex Aviation gasket on the ring then set it in the cover to dry a while.  This brown gasket goo is super tacky and holds the ring well, yet won't block any oil passages as long as you use it sparingly.
