Highway test
03/17/06 at 16:59:30
I decided last night that I would get up an hour earlier and do a highway test with the Savage. I had yet to take her on the interstate and was basically curious as to what she could do at higher speeds. Just a few obseravtions, she tracked straight and true. It topped out stock at a little under 95, if a sixth gear had been available it would have been higher. The time it takes from 75 to 90 seemed an enternity. Top speed was achieved on a downhill grade. Seems her best cruising speed was about 75. Semi truck vortex was noted a few times, although it was very early(4:30am) so traffic was rather light. Mileage dropped to 44mpg. Overall an excellent way to start a friday.

I've always been a morning person. Plus the interstate is virtually empty at that time. That includes those pesky state troopers who are too happy to write tickets for excessive speed. I have a friend who rides a cbr1000 and he laughed at the top speed.

My bike will do 90 mph in 4th gear. If you do the mods that most of us have done you should be able to break that 100 mph mark. I never drive like that, but I like having reserve power.

Not sure of top speed yet, but I'm getting 62 MPG as of the last fill up. No mods planned, no backfire ing, no bitches. About 246 miles on her. 350 more miles to go for an oil/filter change and then...
