Restrictor Plate?
03/16/06 at 06:17:14

my friend, who has never seen a savage but for a couple minutes when I had it over, asked me this morning if my bike had a restrictor plate.  he seems to think that a carb without a simple hi-lo feature or adjustable fuel/air mix throught the range is odd, and that it must have a restrictor plate.  I dont really think so myself.  but, I dont know, anyone wanna fill me in?  and would one help?

I was going to post something else,  I thought better about it, so let's put it this way
the Savage carburetor is no different from the carbs of  the other street bikes on the market.
If You realy want to know more I am sure You will find plenty of links on the web

I remember from early days on Bert's German forum that those bikes were equipped with restricted plates as part of a graduated licensing program. Seems like it kept them down to 28 HP or the DIN =.

That sounds familiar... Seems like I remember hearing something about some European countries limiting either the power or displacement for the first year of a new license or something like that.

Yep, the Europeans did have a restrictor plate on some bikes for some people.  It seems like it depended on the size of the bike and the riding experience of the person.
New rider + big bike = restrictor plate...

...until he had enough experience and then it could come off.

Someone told me about that before but I cannot remember who it was.

That's right, it's a "plastic " tube tha prevents the slide from moving up all the way.

On recent savages they've removed the restrictor plate but increased the size of the spoiler.....

Only old fashioned NASCAR taxicabs use restrictor plates. These guys are still racing cam-in-block, 2-valve, carburated, cast iron engines. My lawnmower has a more modern engine!

Automobile carburators are no longer in any stock cars.
The junk yards are running out of them.  Angry
