After two 45 minute rides on the Savage, Topped off the tank.  Fuel was leaking to the ground beneath the bike.  Petthingy was turned to on, not prime.  Leak stopped as bike cooled down.  What gives?

Good question!  I just assumed it was coming from the carbs, a vaccuum feed that would not stop.

I was wondering about that.  That's why I asked where it was "leaking".  I usually fill mine to where it just kisses the bottom of the filler tube while on the sidestand, then straighten the bike with the cap still off, after which I put the cap on.  Before starting to do that, I had several times where I'd fill it, replace the cap, and as soon as I straightened the bike it started coming out of the cap vents.

couple of things -
have you had the bike very long and have you had the tank off the bike? The reason I ask is your bike may very well have a fuel tank vent on the underside top left(port) if so does it have a drain tube or is it cap'd? Be sure and check your oil - does it smell strong of gasoline or is it over full?

Mr. J, some have tank vent tubes most do not - except for the CA models I've read where this tube goes to the vapor canister - otherwise the cap vent is the only vent there is- my '95 has a vented tank - but the vent is cap'd off, this would however make a fine place to attach an aux to for extending the bikes range.
