BAM ! That rod sure doesn't look very beefy. I guess the rod big end is what failed first. Yikes.

Photos work for me.

That's a serious failure. like DynoBob said. Looks like the big end of the rod broke, then jammed up the crank.

Not good.

Anybody else had this sort of failure?

I agree with a bottom end failure. The rod is not bent nor did the small end fail which indicates the top end is not the cause. When the crank stopped abruptly the load was transferred to the balancer shaft, knocking it out of the engine. This big end rod failure had to be knocking badly prior to kablamo. Fess up Torque you must have heard the engine crying before you killed it.

Oh wow, that brings back memories.  I had that happen in 1980 on a '59 Ford F-100 (straight-6, 223).  Man, what an oil slick and ungodly noise that made.

nope the engine wasnt knocking, they usually dont knock very long after your conecting rod breaks, most engines have a tendencie to freeze up...obviosly.  plus all the bearings are still good no wear or play.and i dont know why fireball decieded to kill himself,to many people picked on him i guess Cheesy

Wow!! That's some failure! Hope it never happens to my Savage (knock on wood ...) What year was your LS torque ... and how many miles? Did you beat on your Savage, or were you gentle with it?
Enquiring minds wanna know!
