If you check the microfiche, you will see different part numbers for a crankcase set for the 1986 (4 gear) and 2005 (5 gear). Hope this helps.

After looking at the ratios it seams the best top speed comes from a four speeder with a five speed primary drive.

Negative, again.
The 5 speed has 2 axles for the gear selector forks. There's no accomodation to support the 2nd axle.
