Should I take the tank off if it is pretty full?

Does it matter when taking the tank off if it is full or not. I filled up yesterday when I went for a ride. I want to do the carb mods and the spark plug door mod. I'm wondering if I made the right choice filling up. I suppose I could siphon some off into the gas can I use for the lawn mower and snowplow.

What do you think?

I've done it. It's just clumsier with more fuel in it. I usually put a gas can on a stool next to the bike, put the fuel line into the gas can and set it on PRI and wait for it to drain. It'll at least get it down to the RES level. I don't recal whether the PRI setting taps at the ON level or the RES level. Either way, you'll make it a lot lighter and easier to handle.

Update: I bought a 5 gallon "jerry can" style gas can and don't need a stool for it anymore.

It makes it a lot easier to reinstall or remove the next time. I used silicone grease, but probably any grease would be ok.

aside from trying to remember where the speedo cable went, I had no issues taking it off or putting it on with a very ful gas tank. Not trying to say I am very strong or anything, but I'm abut 6-2 and 215lbs and I hit the gym 2-3 times a week, guage for yourself if you think it will be an issues ahead of time, seems to weigh about 20-30lbs max when full, if this is gonna be a hard thing for you to muscle around, drain it, if you play with a 3 year old who likes to be picked up and spun around and fliped and such, dont even worry about it, its cake

I would stick with silicone (or maybe even something organic like Crisco) as petroleum based lubricants could eat the rubber mounts.

I have taken the tank on and off about 10 times the past couple of days. The tank was just filled up 10 miles before.
It almost slipped out of my hands once. It is easy to drain if you want to get ride of the fuel. I didn't want to want 2 gallons of gas.

To drain it:

1: Leave the bike on the stand.
2: Turn the petc0ck to off (right)
3: Loosen the hose clamp and pull the fuel line off the petc0ck.
4: Get a bucket and a lawn chair
5: Position the bucket and turn the petc0ck to reserve (you will have to hold the bucket to prevent the gas from running down the belt cover).
6: wait a long ass time for it to drain: you can take breaks and empty the bucket by turning the petc0ck to off
