What oil are you using in the Savage?
12/26/05 at 15:53:46
Hi ,
I am using Castrol Active 4t (15w-50) mineral based oil in my Savage and I know I should change and experiment with others.
After an oil change and clocking up 1,000 miles, my Savage clutch starts to slip.Nothing major, but something you do notice on occasions. I put this down to thinning of the oil.
Just wondering if anyone else here has that problem and what oil are you using?
Have also purchased a highway bar and peg set from Ebay in America. Has Suzuki stamped at the bottom, so I am thinking its a factory extra.
I am 5ft 11 inches tall and these are a must for the taller guys.Just makes my riding much more comfortable and they sit at a nice height.
If anyone would like a picture of these bars and pegs just email me and I will send you some details. Someone handy might like to have the measurements and make it up themselfs.
Hope you all had a good Xmas.
Cheers from Australia
Gary

pour out all that other oil - it's mobil 1 20w-50 vtwin or disaster will ensue! - just kidding - probally doesn't make much difference if you keep it clean and stay away from the friction reduce'n stuff
on the clutch slip'n - it seems to a couple of us these clutches slip far to soon - before the plates are worn much at all - more like time based than wear based - I have new springs and if I'll quit playing with the other toys long enough I intend to just replace the springs, add about 1.5-2.0 mm washer on each for some pre-load and see how long my clutch will last - it slips now under heavy throttle at low speed in higher gears.
