Kawi sport bikes have a positive neutral finder...does that mean savages have a negative neutral finder?
Seriously, what is it and how does it work?
Anyone know?

My wife's Kawasaki Ninja 250 has a positive neutral finder. When you downshift to first and come to a stop, you can only shift up to neutral. It will not go into second. It seems to be a tranmission feature.
The Suuzuki GS250 I used in the MSF BRC definitely did not have this feature. I think Kawasaki patented it.

In the reality these are 3 BBs in grooves on the secondary shaft of the transmission. The balls have to spread to let the second gear to be engaged. When the bike moves, the centifugal force is doing the job and You can pass the neutral. If the bike is sitting in place You have allways at least 1 ball , not letting You to shift pass "N"

My Ninja 250 has this, and let me tell you, it is the best thing since overhead valves.

It's a cool gadget then
But how reliable is it? What if this gadget breaks when you are in the middle of nowhere ? I guess you have to limb home in 1st then!! Personally, if I don't know what gear I'm in at the stop light, I don't have total control of my bike. Hence, I have no business riding that bike then.

Jim;
It's just a simple math problem. I have five speed; so when I got close to the stop light, I pull the clutch and push down three times(I can feel it when the gear is shifted down). That would put me in 2nd gear and the bike is still rolling slowly. If I must come to a complete stop, I would then push 1 more or until it can't go down no more. I then positively know that I am in 1st. Oh by the way, my bike sometimes does tell me that I am in neutral w/o looking at the idiot light(clunk cluck cluck feeling at the shifter)
It won't let me shift down to first when the bike is rolling and in neutral. I just learned to adapt w/t the beast

The neutral finder only works going from first to neutral. It doesn't work from second to neutral.
So you still have to count down the gears to first. In fact, you have to do
higher
math - it has 6 gears.

Never heard of a PNF breaking.
I can tell you though, at long stop lights I don't even have to look at the dash to click into neutral
