My friend just got her 2002 Savage with 1400 Mi. on it, Is there anything I should look for that might give her problems?I bought my 2005 new so I know its history.

Just change the oil and filter at 3k, regap the plug at 5k, repeat at same intervals, check drive belt tension once in a while.  Maybe check valve clearance at 20k.  Check nuts and bolts now and then.  Change brake fluid at 2 years or 20k whichever comes first.  Works for me.

Oil leak from non-sealed rubber plug in valve cover should be starting any time now.

I thought that was fixed in the 2002's.  Seems like I read that was the year they came out with the fix in place.  If not then I'd expect to begin to see it start in the next 1500 miles or so.  Even so, it's more a nuisance leak than anything else.  It's worth keeping an eye out for but I wouldn't fix what ain't broke.  My '98 started the leak at about 2600 miles, I think.  It was somewhere in that vicinity anyway.

May be it is fixed in 2002's with the stronger plug, but I know it was not fixed in the 2001's.  I bought mine with 2600 miles on it this spring and it started leaking at 3,000.  Due to this board, I knew it was not a disaster and fixed it myself.

or at least a re-jet/thinner spacer w/a pipe - these things really do wake um up - by the way if the oil in the sight glass is dark - I'd change it now - you just don't know it was taken care of before.

The fix was just a redesigned plug. The Suzuki Workshop Manual still does not advice to install the plug with sealant, which you better do.
