Hammy, you're thinking out of too many assumptions.
Fact #1, Savages were only sold 1986-1988 in Europe
Fact #2, Savages sold poorly, because they were big thumping singles with the horsepower of a 125cc 2stroke in the days when street racers ruled the market
Fact #3, Savages were crushed because nobody wanted them 2nd/3rd hand anyway
Fact #4, US wages/costs ratio is probably better than in Europe, so buying a bike IS an issue when insurance is more expensive than the selling price of the bike.
I bought my 1988 Savage 6th hand on 30 September (end of riding season) for 1000 Euro = US$ 1200 with 43.000 Km on it already. What's the quote back in your city for an 1988 Savage?
You see, it's different this side of the planet. Big planet.
Else, Kropatches says it all in only 4 words '
look at his website'
www.ls-650.dePossibly the only Savage site in Europe.

Maurizio
