Lady luck saying too early?
10/29/05 at 15:27:10

With the weather expected to turn cooler soon and no garage to prep the bike in I had figured on "baggin" the bike up tomorrow for the winter. Went out for a ride to enjoy the few days I have left and wouldn't you know it I pick up a nail in the rear tire. A 4" nail at that.  Came around a corner and suddenly heard a bang! bang! bang! pulled over to investigate and found the nail hitting the swing arm. decided I couldn't leave it in so I pulled it and made a run for the nearest town(home of a fellow biker) some 10km away.  Didn't look or feel flat when I got there but by the time I got back from store with tire sealant(dealers were closed) she was flat as a pancake. Wasn't sure about the sealant because it wasn't the motorcycle stuff but said for passenger cars on the can. I figured I had no other choice when I'm 30KM from home. Sprayed it in and topped up the pressure with buddy's compressor then immediately headed for home. My problem is now I don't know if I should put it away tomorrow or hold off till after I can get the tire patched and the tube replaced. Not sure if the tire is any good now that the gunk has gotten into it. I would hate to have to repace the tire, it only has about 4000km on it.  Any thoughts?

If your gonna put the bike up for winter  I would fix the tire first.  Sitting flat for a long time will damage the tire.  You shouldn't have gunk in the tire because there should be a tube.   Just have the tube changed and everything should be fine.
