Next Generation Suzuki LS650?

We all know that Suzuki embarked on the very first stage of re-vamping it's Cruiser line-up with the introduction of the Boulevard marque in 2005 ... which essentially was the re-badging of the 2004 models with some minor cosmetic changes. 2006 saw this trend continued, though a new model the M50 replaced the older VZ800 Marauder and the C50 (Volusia) was outfitted with fuel injection.
I've heard that over the next few years that Suzuki intends to totally re-make their entire Cruiser line-up (for better or worse ...)
Anyhoo, I'm sure some of you have wondered what is ultimately in store for our be-loved LS650 ... will it be replaced by an entirely "new" motorcycle?
Well, Suzuki are already sharing motor technology with Korean m/c manufacturer Hyosung ... who have this year introduced the GV650, a "V-Rod" inspired belt-driven, liquid cooled Cruiser, featuring a version of Suzuki's SV650 V-twin powerplant. Could this be where Suzi goes next with the 650cc Cruiser?

I've been wondering about this too lately because the November issue of "Cruising Rider" has an article about fuel injection & they wrote this about the EPA: "The current plan is to reduce motorcycle emissions by 50% by 2008, a requirement that can only be met by using fuel injection."
I hope Suzuki keeps it in the lineup even if it costs a little more for the injection. Maybe if they got rid of the backfire, put on a decent muffler & maybe upgraded the suspension, front brake & tires they could keep it in the lineup for another 20 years. I'd hate to see it go.

i say, lets go the other way.  kill the line. then we truely will have unique machine. engine parts will still be available due to the nature of the build, i'm sure there will be a bunch of them in the boneyards to pilfer from for years to come.

I kinda[i] like the idea of killing the line...

Suzuki, honda, and kawasaki need to start making cruisers that don't have radiators.  I hate radiators on cruisers.  Yamaha does it (no radiators on cruisers), nowadays at least, by using ceramic coated cylinders. My savage just gets hot...  Keep bringing the weight down with aluminum frames... (then they are harder to weld, though).  I have very little love for these heavy-as-h%ll super-cruisers, like the VTX 1800 & Triumph Speed III; even my old man's 1700 cc R* is too big, IMO, at 750 lbs. dry.  Also, let's see a little cruiser styling that isn't "retro" or a milwauke (sp ??) knockoff (despite the fact I have a V* 1100 classic).

As far as emissions go, though, good luck.  The first thing 80% of people do when they get a bike is swap out the pipe(s)... and there'll (hope-ably [yes, I made that up]) always be aftermarket and used carbs around.  How much polution do motorcycles cause, anyway?  Can't be that much.  Let's see, a motorcycle that get's lousy mileage gets 35 mpg or so.  A lousy car or small SUC, excuse me, SUV, gets 15.  Let's forget about tractor trailers and large SUVs and trucks.  Now let's compare the number of motorcycles to cars in the US.  uh, anyone know the numbers?  Embarrassed  I do know that there are significantly more cars then motorcycles...

and this fat rear tire craze has gotta go... well, I don't like them...    8)

I guess we'll see what Japan can do...

loooks like a yamaha vstar warrior muffler.  UGLY hehe
I can definitely see the vrod influence but looks too george jetson to me. EPA = everyone pollutes air.

The first time I saw the V-Rod I thought, "It has no idea what it wants to be."  

Then I thought, "I get it -- it's a cruiser for squids."  Yick.

(Just my admittedly uneducated opinion.)

But about our little thumper -- it's small, it's light, it's easy to ride, it's a great commuter bike with enough power to keep you from getting killed on the highway.

And the dealership where I brought mine for service last weekend was busy as hell.  I spoke to the salesman who sold me my bike (and sold hubby his V-Star), and he said they're selling bikes as fast as they can put them together, because of gas prices.  

I was looking at the C50 and the M50, and I asked him if he could be psychic for a moment, and try to guess how much I might get for my S40 next year if I traded it in for a bigger bike.  He said, "Don't trade it in.  Put out an ad, and emphasize the gas mileage."  

Not that it's the only cruiser that gets good mileage, but I can't think of one that's got that much power but weighs so little.  

If I'm Suzuki, I might want to keep the small, lightweight, high mileage cruiser in the lineup, at least for now.

Well, I think we'll see the LS650 around in it's current form at least until the end of the next model year (2007) ... personally, I don't wanna see 'Zuki kill the S40/Savage ... if they must meet EPA by '08, then add fuel injection ... and while they're at it, a better muffler and a bar mounted speedo with a trip meter would be nice ... hey they have it on the S50/Intruder, so it's not like they'd have to "invent" it, just raid the parts bin! A silver/black 2-tone paint job'd be nice too ...
But, I wouldn't be surprised if something akin to that Hyosung eventually comes out of Suzuki's barn ...

Suzuki killed the Savage in Europe waaay back in 1988 because of emissions, yet I see plenty of DR750 and DR800 around... AND a Savage 750 with a black powder coated engine would not be a bad bike at all !!!  Grin

As for the bigger, bulkier cruisers, they remind me of those guys who commute in their Corvettes or Porsches, they look real cool stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic, never seen 15mph look so fast!  8) but they're still doing 15mph... and 15mpg...

As for the bike by Hyosung, to me it looks like it came right out of a Hot Wheels package, I mean the tiny toy cars... Tongue
