Why?  What is the purpose of pulling a wheelie?  It does nothing for performance.  It impressses no one that matters.

Yes, I felt like I was about to go over backwards once.  It wasn't done intentionally.  Just in a hurry and went WOT from a light.  I figure in must have been the combination of sight uphill and good traction.  I hear you can bust the fork seals pretty easily dropping back down.

A wheelie is just another way to wreck a perfectly good Savage.

Think I'll pass.  My squid days are done.

at about 1700 miles  i was screwing around and did a "Hi ho silver away"  the bike ran down the road on it's rear wheel draging the fender then fell over and rolled twice. still have the baseball sized dent in the tank. broke the pegs off dragged the muffler pretty bad, i had already removed the signals to they were ok..

Wheelies are MURDER on fork seals, especially on a cruiser style bike- hence the name, cruiser, not wheelie machine!

Okay, I'm the one who mentioned the fork seals. My selling dealer thought it was great...he had a lot/shop full of customers when I picked up the bike. I grabbed a handful of throttle, dumped the clutch, and up it came. Oops...too used to heavy old Harleys. Blew both fork seals on the return to earth, within 5 minutes of taking formal possession. He sold every other Savage he had, new and used, by close of business that same day.

And no, I don't recommend popping a whellie on a Savage. The landing is a butt breaker.

Wheelies are a consequence of opening the throttle in 1st on my KLX.

Try pulling up & back on the handlebars when you dump the clutch.  Sitting a little further back on hte hump may also help.

But everything the good folks said above still holds.

... and "SQUID" is painted on my rear fender
