installing new footpegs

hey all,
i'd like to install some new foot pegs on my "new" 1986 savage. I currently have the stock ones. I want to either get new driver ones or new driver and passenger ones. How do i go about installing them? Will any custom footpeg work or do they nees certain dimensions?
thanks

You'll have to get ones specific to the Savage so they'll fit in the factory mounts. Not sure if pegs for an Intruder or Marauder will work - maybe somebody here knows.
There are plenty of people here that have installed aftermarket footpegs, so they should be able to give you good advice.

I'm thinking about putting the kuryakyn ISO footpegs on mine. I think you just have to be sure to get the right adapters. I just started looking at it yesterday.
Good Luck.

I had to replace the peg rubber not too long ago. I sawed the flat ends off the pegs. BSA Goldstar replacement rubber is a slip on fit, BUT, you have to grease the metal part. HD spec pegs don't fit, the hole is too small and the stem is too short. LS/S40/VS800 stuff is what to look for. Intruder bits LOOK like they won't fit...trust me, they will.

Here's WD's post from the light bar thread in case you didn't see it:
VS800 can also be used to source: headlight, taillight, pegs, floorboards, mirrors, turn signals, horn, and chrome master cylinder/cap.

"I had to replace the peg rubber not too long ago"
hey,
Maybe this is an option as I am viewing the prices for some new pegs and the lowest i've found is 50 bucks US. Where di you get these replacement rubbers? Online? What do they look like?
thanks

If I remember right, WD noted somewhere else that VS800 shocks would also fit the Savage. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm sure I read on this board somewhere.

Yeah, um, just forgot to relist those. They fit fine. Helps to have had an LS and a VS parked next to each other the last 5 years...

Oh, and per another posting, when you get tired of fighting the vacuum petc0ck, the VS800 mechanical is a direct bolt-on.
And I sell the BSA peg rubbers, along with Norton and 2 Triumph versions. Look for my last set of photos in RSD if you want to see how they look. Probably 2-4 pages back by now.

I am sorry but I don't know what RSD is. How much do you sel them for? Also, has nayone dealt with
www.metric-cruisers.com?
They seem to have a nice selection of accesories for the VS800.

The peg rubbers are reproduction T120 and T140, Commando, and Goldstar. $8.95-12.95 plus shipping, for JUST the rubber parts, you'd need to mod your stock pegs and go from there. Have matching British style grips (made in Italy) for $2.00 plus shipping, and vintage plugs (Lodge, KMC, BERU) for a buck each. Plugs are collector items, they ONLY fit European bikes/cars.
My shop has the neatest junk squirreled away...

thanks for the info,
I'm looking at these foot pegs:
http://www.metric-cruisers.com/motorcycle-parts-accessories/default.php?cPath...
It says they are for the ls650.
think they will work?
How hard will it be for the installation?
P.S. I can't get the link to work so you'll have to copy and paste
