Rattling under light accelleration when hot

This started yesterday when I came into town after about a 50 mile ride on country roads. The engine was completely warm. The engine started a light metallic rattling sound when I first accelerated away from the first stop in town. Did it also on light throttle without moving. Continued to do it each time I came to a stop and accelerated away until I shut the engine down. Nothing really bad sounding, just different. Never heard this sound before. No extra vibration from the bike. Definitely sounding like it was coming from just under the gas tank.

Didn't do it on my return trip, or this morning.

Any guesses?Could something be coming loose? Seems unusual that something would be loose and then not loose. Gasoline problem? Anything I should especially look for? I'm coming up on due for an oil change and I might as well look then.

sounds like the imfamous speedo rattle to me. it's a common occurance, and easy fix do a google on this site for speedometer rattle and you will find the past disscusions on this topic. i also recommend you read over the posts in the technical section, they will explain all the little problems that have come up and been fixed.

I've also had loose stuff in the headlight casing rattle and sound almost like the speedo rattle.

The speedometer on my '02 sounded like a coffee can half full of nuts and bolts . The silicone fix posted on the tech board worked great, just don't spare the silicone . Luck on your scoot.

The speedo rattle doesn't have to do with moving. It rattles with the engine....and usually at a particular consistent RPM.
