Should I buy?
07/11/05 at 08:48:14

Hello All,

I currently ride a Yamaha SR250TH and am thinking of upgrading. I found a 2004 Savage 650, 5000 miles for $3399. Okay, I know I asking a group of people with a bias  Wink, but I need some opinions here. Too much? Any advice you can give me I'd appreciate. The former owner is a aquaintance, so that's a bonus, having access to the bikes history.

Thanks in advance,

DMarie

Assuming the bike "fits" you, the price seems reasonable for a bike with relatively low mileage.

You can do a little better on the price.  Right now you're paying a premium for last year's model.

One more question if I could. I prefer the handlebars on the Savage over the drag bars on the Boulevard S40. Am I correct in assuming that the Savage is no longer being made? If so, this will put some pressure on me to buy.

Thanks again,

DMarie

I saw a 2001 for $2300. on Saturday. If you are close to Mineral Wells, Texas you might take a look at it. He'd probably deal on that price. My daughter & I both love our Savages, hers is a 2004 & mine is 2003. Perfect bikes for all types of riders and very reliable.

strong possibility of swapping bars for the cost of shipping.  not with me -- I like my pullpacks

when you swap, be sure to exchange contol cables also. i looked at the s40 and it does't look like the cables are long enough. it may be a problem for the electronic cable though.

it's much easier to go from the pull backs to drag, than the other way around.

I expect to have a spare set of pullbacks & stock risers shortly.  You'd be on your own for cables.

Thank you all! I test drove her last night. She fit well. However, I noticed she backfired occasionally. The former owner tells me she's always done that, it's a Savage thing. Is that correct?

If you get the bike, Id be willing to trade you my pullbacks for the drag bars. I prefer that style. I have a 1998 savage; i dont know how or if you can switch the 2 bars. but if so, id be willing. let me know!
PS (or if anyone else has some drags for sale, ive got my eyes open...)

New (larger) jets should fix that backfire.  $3 each or so; your local bike shop may have them on hand.
