In using the both ronAyers and the fiche pages on alpha-sports.com this looks to be the deal - the 12711-24990 part number is replaced by 12711-24b02 and then by 12711-24b03 and the last part number is
listed for the 1986 -

12711-24b10 is replaced by 12711-24b11 and this is listed for the 1999 -

so what year you have? and i wonder what the difference is - perhaps the 86-88 had a little more performance in them - or there maybe a real physical difference - better to stick with the spec ... I didn't really say that!

So far as I can tell - that is replaced by the 12711-24b02/24b03 cam shaft - check on alpha-sports.com to make sure on the '88 - and then order from who ever seems cheaper (ron ayers most likely and a fine bunch of folks at that)

Dude,

Are you looking to just replace the cam?  If you are, and you have the original, you may be able to have it reground with a performance profile.  When I did my engine rebuild I sent the cam to "Webcams" in California. and about 10 days later I got back a custom ground performance cam for my Savage.  Cost about $125. For a Sportster muff on an otherwise stock Savage, jet up to 155-160 main, file down the white spacer to half-thickness, and set the idle mixture about 2 turns out from seated position.  Min ran great that way.

I found the site for the performance cams if you are still looking, it is www.webcamshafts.com, Web Cam Inc, and  they are located in Riverside, CA.
