Depending what do You want. I Did 2 Savages with direct slip-on Sportster muffler. The only thing in case like this is  the muffler smokes the rear brake adjuster. If You can live with this- it is a simple slide-on. I did a L-shaped bracket with couple of holes between the Savage exhaust holding bracket and the new exhaust. It took me about 20 min.

How does the sound of the HD muffler compare to a Jardine (which kicks a$$ in my opinion)?

If you are not handy at all, go with something made for the savage. jardine, mac, supertrapp or rask.

Get a purpose made muffler for now. They are considerably more expensive than a dealer take-off Sportster muffler, but, all of the engineering is already done. If you like shiny chrome, don't buy a Jardine. they work fine, but the chrome discolors pretty quickly. If I had the cash to redo my exhaust, I'd go Raask or Mac. I did the "cheap and cheezy" JC Whitney universal route...big waste of time, money, and welding wire.

I'm pleased with my MAC but please remember to clean that bad boy off completely after installing it before firing the bike up.  I have blueing on mine from skin oils where I did not wipe it down well enough.

It's very easy to put on.  Just remove the heat shields, loosen the header bolts at the manifold (to allow a slight amount of wiggle), remove the original muffler, install new muffler, tighten/torque manifold bolts, replace heat shields.  You'll probably want to do away with the aft heat shield (the bell-shaped one) because it'll look kinda stupid.  There's a smaller one available at JC Whitney that works perfectly as a replacement.
