cheers, any help would be great.

I need to change the cam chain, was going to try wedging somthing on the other side or a copper washer between the gears?? Also I have to go buy one of those 4 foot wrench bars ans the nut has seems to have been put on by arnie of steriods and speed..

ideas?

Ok.... remove spark plug.... determine when piston is coming up for one direction by turning the nut the way you want it to go (losen or tightening)

Get yourself a two foot peice of soft rope. Slightly smaller in diameter than the Spark plug hole.... feed in enough to stop the piston from coming all the way up and starting back down... this soft surface between the top of the piston and the head will hold it... without damage... so you can then really torque on that nut.  The right amount is about 6 or so inches of rope fed in and coiled up at the top of the piston. Doesn't take a lot. Just enough to stop the crank in place so you can really wrench on that nut. Reverse to reinstall.

Most flywheel nuts are very tight. 50 ft pounds or more. So they sometimes want an air wrench to extract. And a good torque wrench to replace. Making sure the Keyway is in place and keeping it tight enough to not shear it. Thats its job is to keep the Flywheel in line with the crankshaft. It does not hold it in place. It just lines it up. As it contains the magnet embeded in it that the HES (Hall Effects Sensor) is taking its signal from to fire on a revolution. So its position is critical to the timing of the bike.  As critical as the Stator is. Its relationship to the stator under the flywheel is part of the timing of the bike. And that key lines that part of it up. It does not hold the flywheel in position. The tourqe of that nut does. And so it has to be tight.

I suggest you put a new Key in when you reassemble. And the right one. It has to be the right material or it might shear prematurely or postmaturely. Get the correct one.

Brillian, Thanks, the rope trick is perfect... its oine of those, 'why didnt i think of that' things... Smiley

Altho its the other side i want to get off... (where the cam chain goes behind 'that' big nut) sorry for the baby description, havent seen in her guts for about 6 months so still bit fuzzy as to whats what..

Oh and sun umbrella accesory is only 9.95 but only from me (patent pending) comes with two line mounting instructions Wink hehe

1) remove fuel cap
2) insert unbrella  Tongue

Put in 5th gear, have someone stand rear brake. works for me. used that trick for many moons on many different makes.

BTW  the rope trick can also be used to hold the valves closed.
This way you can remove the valve springs to change the oilseals around the valve stems.
Used to do that on 4 or 6 cylinder aircraft piston engines.

Wadn't me needer.... Old 2 stroker trick.... passed down from generations of shade tree mechanics... the same ones trying to teach me how to do the 12" Johnson Rod conversion...  Grin

GOT AN ENGINE!!!! YAY, so thanks for all your help with ideas of how to get my old crank nut off etc, but i thought sod it...! and got myself an engine thats only done aroun 15,000 Kilometers!, Im SURE more photos to follow this summer, cant wait to start her up for the first time...... ever.... well ok, iv only had the bike errrr 6 years or so....  ??? ChrisF..
