Cruising Speed

Hi Gang, new to the forum. I currently own a 1981 Yamaha SR500 thumper and while I like the machine, it flat beats me to death ( vibration wise). I've read with great interest the positive posts about the Savage and I'm becomming quite interested in it. I understand the Savage has a counter balance system to smooth things out. What is a comfortable cruise speed on it? Can I, say, cruise comfortably at 70 mph?
Can the bike itself handle that speed for extended amounts of time? I'd like a big thumper to cruise these backroads/hills of KY along with the occasional freeway jaunts (100 miles or so).
Great Forum.

I'm happy at 60pmh.  At 70 I feel how light the bike is and how much the wind can move me.  At 80mph (takes a few seconds from 70mph) I'm holding on for dear life - getting around the big rigs.

I don't have a windsheild.  Those that do may have a different opion.

California Freeways, speed limit 65, generally run 70-85.  I usually run about 75.  I have a flyscreen which blocks just enough air so that I am not being pushed off the saddle.  There is a small amount of vibration through the grips, about the same or a little less than I remember from my GS450E twin at the same speed.

If Your bike is in a good shape 70 - 75 is a reasonable speed /does not include Az in july-august/. More than this- depending on the modifications and on the temperature.

My 98 Savage is smooth at 70 mph. In fact I was pleasantly surprised at its smoothness. Also it will run at 70 all day if needed.
