Has the exhaust been modified?
01/18/05 at 18:12:12

First, I am newbie to the forum. I have been reading postings as a visitor and would like to say what a great and informed group on this site.

I recently bought a 2002 Savage April 04 and notice the exhaust has two wield marks that appears to be holes filled. These marks are at the 10 and 5 O'clock position when looking at the end of the exhaust pipes e.g. not the four rivets.

Are these wield marks normal from the factor or did some one drill out the exhaust and then fill the holes back in?

Yeah, and I believe that if you drill out the rivets that you can pull all the guts out because they are attached to those welds....

Just a silly thought  Roll Eyes

I never knew that.  Mine had those welds.  I thought someone had drilled out the muffler and their wife or dad told them to quiet that thing back up.

actually  it's called the "hartman mod"  i down loaded a pdf i could send you to post. i cant remember where i got it.  jon d has a version on his site.  it looks like and intresting mod. take out original baffle modify it put back with new end cap.  it does takes some cutting and welding skills  but can be done on bike in about 3 hours.

But that wasn't the way mine was.  It looked like someone drilled out the rivets, then changed their mind and welded them back in.
