Can someone explain - looking at the info for the Dynojet kit for the Savage, it seems they send 5 main jets (DJ138, DJ140, DJ142, DJ144, and DJ146).   If there is a difference between Mikuni versus Dynojet jet sizes, and assuming the numbers ( DJ138 ) are associated with size, then the jets that Dynojet include in the Stage I kit are useless, even for a stock Savage!  

When you are talking about the 152.5 and 155 main jets in most of the other posts (both in the tech section and here), where are you getting those jets?  Is the Dynojet kit useless?

When I first bought my '02 Savage(bought  new in '04 on the showroom floor), the first thing I did was put on a Jardine slip on (my self) and then the bike didn't run right. So I had the dealership order the Dynojet kit and had them put it on. I have the paperwork and they used the DJ146 main jet. After this(over a year now), the bike runs great, hardly ever backfires (in third on decel if it does). So, I don't know if the stock# of the Dynojets correspond to size, but it would'nt make sense if they didn't. Hope this helps

According to Dynojet - that chart is useless (although you will notice he does not really answer my questions - I emailed them back about it):

The reference chart that you provided is incorrect.  Dynojet, like other jet manufacturers, uses numbers to label their jets, however, those numbers do not represent the same qualities of the jet that other manufacturers
numbers do.  Bearing this in mind you cannot cross two numbers that don't represent the same thing.  I can what you mean when you look at the hole size of the jet.  Our jets are specially designed with tapers on the entrance and exit to the jet.  You also need to consider the drastic change that our kits make with the needle.  All of this has to be considered.  If you set the kit up according to the baseline specs that are outlined in our installation guide,
you shouldn't have any tuning issues.  If you need help making adjustments after the kit is set up properly, you can contact our toll free tech support dept. at the number listed below.

Does it have a good bit more head room at freeway speed?
