I was going by LJS or Long John SIlver on the bbs. I just sold my 70 sprint to fund the puchase of my 01 Savage. I thought I recognized the username. Thats fantastic. I got into the scooter scene by way of default. I got a sweet deal on a bike that needed a clutch side seal. I have a love for all types of small engines and I had just sold my Shadow Aero 1100 (too much bike for my skinny a**). Vespas are great if you never need to leave the town you live in but in my world they just arent practical enough. I would love to have kept it but I just couldn't afford both. I guess the world is smaller than you think.

I thought it was a bit funny how you knew what was going on in my head on this first action. I kept that in mind this time.

Your a quick learner...

First off determine shipping and payment methods are acceptable to you. Double check the sellers feedback and feel comfortable with that. Research online the price of what it is and what a decent deal would be. So you can settle on a bid price. If you have any questions send them and wait on reply.

Then as to bidding...

Two options... bid early and establish your top bid from the research you did... All your going to pay or let it go.. to discourage anyone else. Like Guitar did. Letting people know your on it. It not only discourages anyone else... it tells your friends your on it. And they have to decide how badly they want it.

Or bid late, all your willing to go and send with one minute left (depends on your connection speeds)... so it gets in with a few seconds or so to go. Sniping is whats its called. There are bidding software programs out there that will do that for you if your away or think you might forget the time. They work realy nicely.

I have actually taken a sick day to stay at home and bid on a hot one. I remember losing, even though I don;t remember what it was. A guitar pedal I think.

Another time I drove home on lunch, sniped my final and winning bid, and went back to work. I remember that win, an old Canon EF. The original EF. Sweeeeeeeet.

I too recently got a sweet deal on a Nat. Cycle Flyscreen on e-bay ... actually my wife, who is a pretty adept e-bayer got it for me ... told her how much I'd be willing to go and not a cent more ... watched it for a few days to see how quickly it was climbing and she waited 'til the last couple of minutes and snicked in with my bid and nailed it!
Worst thing is though, it that living here in Canada, you usually get nailed on shipping and often with customs as well ...

So was mine. I was using Cycle Trader and was looking at a 2000 offered at $2500 only about 60 miles south of me. Then the same bike showed up on eBay. My two nearest Suzuki dealers did not have any Savages in stock, and the one said they never would as the Savage leaked oil and vibrated too much for the yuppies and their puppies. The dealer in LB had a 2004 tagged at over $5K.
