If you want to do image changes in an editor, I'd suggest using the BMP. The JPG looks the same, and is saved with 0% compression, but JPG is a lossy format and would be better for web imagery, etc. since the file size is smaller and loads faster. If you're into imaging and graphics, you'll know the difference. If you're not, the JPG is a faster download. Oddly, it appears that the code used in this page is not BMP friendly, hence the url code showing above.
