correct color being shiny black with blue metallic flecks?
Cheesy

it needs repainting due to damage from previous owners. i was going to go with the flat black and shiney chrome/polished aluminum look.
even paint the engine case flat black...

My spouse's is the same black with blue.  Looks real nice.  Can't you just buff it out or is it all scratched?  We did buy a small bottle of black auto paint (with a small brush) that does a decent touch up job on small scratches if you take the time with wet sanding to get it right.

Now, the engine case...And oh really?  Flat black?

How about baked ceramic black enamel on the entire engine?  Now we're talking about my engine.  Just let me know when you need a few pointers  8)

actually the paint is scratched on the opposite side of what you see in the picture clear down to the metal, which is trying to rust.

i was thinking flat black with chrome accents and chrome decals. i saw a chopper that had the chrome design under flat paint. awesome look, but mighty expensive.
me, i'm on a budget.

You can stop the rust and touch it up (on a budget) with a small bottle of black auto paint from a place like Auto Zone.  If you compare it to your bike you can get a close metallic match.  The bottles have a small brush in the cap (like finger nail polish).

You'll need some 500, 1000, and 1500 grit wet sandpaper (cut in small squares), a bowl of water, masking tape, polishing compound, a light touch, and a couple hours work to make it look better.  Also, get a small can of spray clear coat.

I had never done this before last winter when my spouse put a boo-boo on the side of her rear fender....actually it was a 1 1/2" GASH down to the metal .  I thought about it awhile, and dived in.  On my first try, I kinda made it a little worse, so I "regrouped" and started over.  After my second try, you wouldn't know it was there if I didn't tell you.....

Holy Mud Fence!  It does look like a bumble bee.

And the bars take on a special effect too.  Do you think you'd get enough leverage with those?

You thought I was joking about the bumblee bee, didn't you??

But seriously, a question about painting.  I have a little scratch I'd like to fix but I don't have a black bike -- its purple.  If I sand, get the paint to match, paint and clear coat, do you think it will be noticeable?

I am thinking the sooner the better since the paint really hasn't had a chance to fade.
